My lightbulb moment came last year – I have been in debt most of my adult life, but in 2016 it started spiralling out of control. It was clearly time to learn to manage my money. My debts are now history (more about that later I’m sure) but I still have spendaholic tendencies that need to be kept in check.
This blog is about my ups-and-downs as I try to get to grips with managing my budget and try to build wealth for our future without being a total miser.* I hope it will keep me accountable on my journey and help me teach my children lessons the lessons that I clearly didn’t learnt about managing money. In a world where debt is the norm, I’d like them to be wealthy, in every sense of the word.
Oh, and the title of the blog comes from an old Chinese proverb:
“if you have but two pennies left, spend one on bread and the other on a flower”
I hope that, in the future, whether I have two pennies or more, I will make sound decisions that bring joy to my life, and to the lives of those around me.
*disclaimer…I’m sure all sorts of random other stuff will appear in this blog as I strive to become a better me, including my endless attempts to lose weight, and for this I make no apologies.
